Press Release: SCAAHC is Accepting Nominations for Preserving Our Places In History Awards, 2017

The South Carolina African American Heritage Commission (SCAAHC) is accepting nominations for its annual awards, to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of African American Heritage in South Carolina. Nominations will be accepting in the following categories:

The Individual Award

This award recognizes a person who has demonstrated or made an outstanding accomplishment in preserving and interpreting African American history and culture in SC during 2017.

The Group or Organization Award

This award recognizes a group or organization that has demonstrated or made an outstanding accomplishment in preserving and interpreting African American history and culture in SC during 2017.

The Project Award

This award recognizes a project that has significantly and dramatically influenced in a permanent way the preservation and interpretation of African American history and culture in SC during 2017.

The Student Award

This award recognizes a current college student who has a great interest in, and has done a noteworthy work, towards the preservation of African American history and culture in SC in 2017. Enrollment and study at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) is preferred, but not necessary.

The Legislator of the Year Award

This award recognizes a legislator who has endorsed the preservation of African American history and culture in SC; and/or solicited funding through the SC Legislature for causes, groups or organizations that support the preservation of African American history and culture in SC in 2017.

Individuals, groups and organizations can nominate themselves for the awards or be nominated by others who are aware of their work, contributions and achievements in the field. Nominations must be submitted on the form below.
