Spring Hill AME
Formed in 1898 by 75 members of St. Matthews AME Church, Spring Hill AME built a frame building after meeting in under a bush arbor. By the 1930s, the church also built a school for local children and maintained it until Reverend Joseph DeLaine organized parents in Summerton and legally challenged school segregation. The school was demolished just before hearing before the Fourth Circuit in Charleston, SC of Briggs v. Elliott.
