John Benjamin Taylor House

This Craftsman house, built by 1903, was the home of Rev. John Benjamin Taylor (1867-1936) until his death. Taylor, a minister and administrator in the Methodist Episcopal Church 1892-1936, was also a longtime trustee of Claflin University, 1908-1928. Educated at Claflin, he was a teacher and principal in Orangeburg before being appointed a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1892. Taylor was superintendent of the Charleston District of the Methodist Episcopal Church 1907-1913, then superintendent of the Orangeburg District 1924-1929.
